Cruise Harlo’s Got Talent
Hello everyone and thanks for clicking onto this if you did. The following is a story that I’ve written as apart of Braille House’s writing competition of 2020. It’s a short story about a man called Cruise and his dog performing on Australia’s Got Talent. I enjoy writing stories and it’s always good if they can give someone else some joy to read them. Cheers and enjoy:
“Well ladies and gentlemen we haven’t had one of these in a while but we’ve got Cruise Harlo and his dog to perform a routine on stage for us so let’s welcome them to the stage,” said judge Peyton Stix from behind the judge’s desk in front of the stage. The crowd started to applaud myself as I walked onto the stage with Daisy the Dalmation. My hands were shaking a little as I walked onto the stage. The audience seemed pretty large from the noise of the applause but I couldn’t see them from the lighting. We paused in the centre of the stage. We were going to perform a dance routine myself and Daisy had practiced.
The music started to play and Daisy gave a quick and excited bark. Daisy loved this song so that’s why I chose it for the performance. The song was ‘Burning Love’ by Elvis Presley. “Lord O mighty I feel my temperature rising,” said the music from the speakers. I raised my hands in the air as Daisy jumped up and down. She jumps each time the song says something about rising temperature; she’s pretty smart. Clicking my fingers and jiggling my legs to the beat I find that Daisy has started to run off the stage. Don’t worry this was part of the performance. Peyton Stix and Jason Rider both opened their mouths in shock to Daisy’s disappearance.
Daisy runs back into my arms. “Your kisses lift me higher…” comes from the speaker and Daisy gives me a gentle lick on the cheek. “Awww” was a sound I heard from the audience. “…and you light my morning sky with burning love” the speaker says. As that line was said, I held and hugged Daisy the Dalmation nice and tight. Another set of “Awws” came from the audience.
The next part of our act got harder as we continued. I lift Daisy into the air and turn around. I let Daisy sit on my head and move my arms to my sides. I couldn’t see the judges or the audience but I could hear that they were reacting. Then Daisy stood up on my head and did a backflip off my head. I love Daisy and I turn around to catch her as she falls behind my back. The crowd gave an applause; not many dogs can do backflips like her.
The next trick was one I knew they would love. I lay down on the stage like a pencil with my arms to the side. Daisy jumps over me each time they say “ah ah ah” in the song. She accidentally jumped and landed on my belly and gave a bark as it said “burning love”. This wasn’t planned but it was some good improvisation. If Daisy was speaking in English when she barked it would have sounded like a “Woohoo” or a “Burning love” just like the song.
Inspired by Elvis I stand up and put my hands on my hips. Daisy starts to run around in circles. I shake my hips and groove to the move. The movement of my hips caused me to feel a sliding motion down my leg. I was still shaking my hips. This was the finale of the performance. The crowd made an “oh” sound. I wondered why, but then I noticed that my pants were at my ankles. Oh no and all I could hear was “hunks hunks burning love. I’m just a hunk hunk burning love” as the pants were at my ankles and I was shaking my hips. Daisy stopped swirling and pulled up my pants with her teeth. I didn’t know she could do that. I should have brought a belt to wear today.
The music stops and the crowd gives a standing ovation. Applause and cheers fill my ears.”Alright alright ladies and gentlemen let’s be quiet and share what we thought of the performance. I love your dog what is it’s name Cruise?” Peyton Stix says. “Her name is Daisy Peyton,” I say. Jason Rider stood up and asked me a question. “What was your reason for performing on Australia’s got talent this year Cuise Harlo?” “I just love Daisy and want to share some love. We’ve been living pretty poor together just me and Daisy but we can light up people’s faces with a smile by being on stage” I said. “Well you sure did Cruise. I loved it it’s a yes from me.” “”Your performance was full of surprises Cruse and i loved every second of it” exclaimed Penelope Wingette. “ I love your confidence, your reasons for performing and I just loved that dog’s backflip. It is another yes from me. Beautiful performance. Well done,” said Penelope. Tears rolled from the last judges eyes. Micheal Voodoo cried as he said he loved the performance. “It’s the opposite of a no from me Cruse. A big yes from me,” said Micheal. “Well you heard it yourself Cruise. Four Yes’s from us. You’ll be through to the Grand Final next week on Australia’s Got Talent,” said Peyton.
My mouth dropped and I hugged Daisy. “I love you Daisy. Thankyou girl” I said to Daisy. The crowd applauded and we were to leave the stage with an audience standing and applauding. Daisy might only be a black and white Dalmation but she has a colourful energy field that people can feel. From the life living in solitude at home it took a bit of courage to perform tonight but it was great to get such a good reaction. Four yes’s was out of my dreams and a great reaction to get. Daisy and I would need to learn some more tricks for the next performance. Maybe some hoops and tightrope walking, maybe even and a motor bike for the last performance. All I have to say is that today’s performance was all thanks to Daisy. Her wonderful dancing, licks and personality brought the audience to their feet and I couldn’t have done it without her.
